Dan Grey talks with Bervin Smith about bringing the Tacoma Police Department together with our community. Mr. Smith reminds us that “need has no zip code,” meaning every community has special needs. He has set up Service Saturdays to promote empathy between seniors and young people and the Tacoma police.
Mr. Smith says, “The Tacoma Police Department would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in this past weekend’s “Service Saturday.” Saying the seniors at Spring Ridge Assisted Living enjoyed themselves would be an understatement. The conversations, food, and especially the bingo games were all a big hit!
A special thank you to our generous sponsors who helped make this day a success: Walmart, Spinnaker Property Management,7-11, Coordinated Care, Starbucks, VFW Post 969 of Tacoma, JustServe.org, and of course, our incredible volunteers.
It was also wonderful to see so many high school students join in. Your presence and energy truly brightened the day for both the residents and their family members.
If you have an idea for our next “Service Saturday,” I’d love to hear it. Please feel free to share!“
